Journal 5 – Project alters Jesus?

1. Has your image of Jesus changed during the project? How or Why not?

Yes, my image of Jesus has changed during the project. This is because of the extra activities that have been happening in conjunction with the project. It has changed my view of who Jesus really is and the way I will present him to the class.

2. What do you feel is the best way to portray an image of Jesus and why?

I feel that the best way to portray Jesus is to use bright colours and symbols to be used as representations. I believe it will look plain just drawing someone as a portrait and should include symbols and bright colours.

3. What have you enjoyed about the project so far and what would you do differently?

The project has been joyous so far, group activities gave us more knowledge about the different art periods. The several interactive activities that have been created acted as templates that could be used later in other presentations. What should be done differently though is the way people work. We should be up to creating our own artworks and not still doing the research.

Journal 4 – Different ways Jesus is Portrayed

1) What form of medium (music, art or literature ) allows you to best connect with Jesus and Why?

I believe artworks portray Jesus the best. I believe this because artworks can use symbols to represent Jesus. E.g. Jesus can be represent as a dove. Doves represent the Holy Spirit and also peace. Art helps us to connect with Jesus much easier then music can. Literature connects with Jesus the second best out of the three because literatures, like poems can be used to describe Jesus’ characteristics.
2) Why has Jesus been portrayed in so many different ways throughout history?

Jesus has been portrayed in many ways because of Jesus’ status. His status and His kindness gives Him the reason why people would portray him instead of someone else. Jesus sacrificed Himself to save man kind Artists usually either portrays Him as a kind and caring Man or the way he was put on the crucifix.

3) How is Jesus portrayed at Parramatta Marist?

Jesus is an important figure to the Catholic Faith. In Parramatta Marist, St Marcellin Champagnat is like Jesus. This is because Marcellin had dedicated his life to help children get a better education. Marcellin did not do well in his schooling during his young age, he does not want other people to have the same faith as he did.

4) What artistic time period do you think best represents your image of Jesus and why?

I believe that contemporary art will illustrate Jesus the best. Contemporary art has many styles which means that I will be able to use many ways to depict Jesus. I.e I can use cubism to draw Jesus using circular shapes which will represent Jesus being happy. If i use shapes with jagged edges, it will show the sorrow and unhappiness.

5) Identify one image of Jesus that appeals to you. What do you like about the representation?

The Image of Jesus that appeals me

(Click the link above to see the picture I’ve chosen)

I believe this image appeals me the most. The title of the art work is ‘Jesus blesses little children’. We can see Jesus’ care for the young children and the baby. Jesus is represent in the centre of the image showing that He is an important figure. I like how the artist created this image because of the different ages with the children showing how Jesus will care for all.

6) What factors currently shape your image of Jesus and why.

Not sure what this question meant.

Journal 3 – Images of Jesus

1) What words and or images come to mind when you hear the word Jesus.

When I hear the word Jesus, I think about Jesus being compassionate to everyone. I also think about how Jesus sacrificed his life for us. Words I think of when i hear Jesus are, Son of God, Holy Spirit and Right hand of God.

2) Why might it be important for young people to identify with an image of Jesus.

It is important when a young person identifies with images of Jesus. When a young person identifies with Jesus he will think about the characteristics of Jesus. The young person with moral maturity will follow the right path he should follow when thinking about Jesus.

3) Where in your life do you most associate with images of Jesus?

I associate images of Jesus when I am at home. I think of my parent being kind and gentle just like Jesus. I also associate with images of Jesus when I am attending school. I think of the teachers being Jesus as well. I believe my teachers are like Jesus because of the way they are helping us, providing us with education and skills for life later on.

Journal 2 – Understanding the Rubric

1. How many rubrics are there for this project?

For CST/IST 4, Images of Jesus, there are two rubrics for the project itself. The rubrics are the individual and the group rubric. There are also upcoming rubrics for any individual tasks.

2. Describe the purpose of the rubric?

In my opinion, I believe the rubric can be used as a guide to see what needs to be completed. The rubric if followed correctly can help achieve a high mark which goes towards your total mark in the grade.

3. How can you use the rubric to get the best possible mark?

Achieving the highest mark is simple. Of course, following the rubric will help you achieve the mark. Reading over the rubric every day can help you more because you will know what is expected instantly from the rubric and be able complete the tasks required in conjunction with your ‘Know and Need to Know List’ to the best of your ability.

Journal 1 – Selecting Groups

1. List TWO problems that could occur from students selecting their own groups.

1. Students would most likely choose their friends and the project will not be done.

2. Some students will not be in any group at all.

2. Which type of student do you think would be selected first?

If someone was intelligent, the people who they would select first will be the smart and hard-working students. In another case, the team pickers would most likely choose their friends.

3. Why do you think they were selected first?

These students are selected first because of the following reasons:

1. They tend to do their work and extra research at school and home.

2. They are intelligent and can produce creative ideas.

3. They have a good reputation with working.

4. Which type of student do you was selected last?

The students who are selected last will be the ones who are not motivated to work. They slack off in class and do not hand in work by the deadline. Also, in some cases, students who are selected last are because they have a problem which has made them different from a ‘normal’ person.

5. What beneficial characteristics can you offer to your group?

I am motivated to work and submit all work by the deadline. I can provide my group with certain ideas in different areas.

6. List THREE things you personally would like to improve on during this project.

1. Improving on my time-management skills. How to manage my time in the space of time I have left for projects appropriately.

2. Communicating skills. My skills in presentation and speaking on the spot confidently.

3. Increasing my knowledge with the historical time periods, i.e the Renaissance

Journal 1

1. The universe is thought to have been created around 14 billion years ago.

2. When the young universe inflated, it became extremely bigger.

3. If the matter and antimatter had fully destroyed all of each other, the building blocks of the universe would not have been formed.

4. Particles called quarks began to form the protons and neutrons when clumped in groups of three.

5. a) The proportion of hydrogen is around 77%.

b) The reason that hydrogen is the most common element is because it can be formed easily with one proton nucleus, therefore being the simplest element in the universe.

6. A proton is in the centre of a hydrogen atom.

7. The early universe was opaque because it contained energy in the form of radiation.

8. The fog cleared as the expansion of the universe continued. This is due to the fact that more and more particles joined together and formed new elements.

9. They detected the big bang because of the radio waves that they detected. They would that no change was made and were similar in all directions. They realised that the signal was the afterglow of the big bang.

10. COBO is an acronym that stands for Cosmic Background Explorer, which is a satellite.

11. Galaxies and stars are formed when clouds of gases are compacted.

12. Baby planets become bigger when more matter is attracted.

13. There are four main theories that outline the future of our universe. They are:

  • Open universe
  • Closed universe
  • Flat universe
  • Accelerating universe

14. I believe that the ‘Accelerating universe theory’ will represent our future. This is due to the fact that recent observations and research suggest that this would most likely happen.

Journal 2 – Prototypes

1.) Describe the term ‘prototype’ and give reasons why it could be used.

“A first or experimental working model of something to be manufactured, usually on a large scale” This is the definition of a prototype defined by the website below. www.philips.com.sg/About/company/local/Section-13527/Index.html

A prototype is used so a pre design in full scale may be experimented with. Changes can be made to further improve the quality and performance of the design. The prototype could also be made to see whether the design would ever be able to sell out or work.

2.) Discuss another industry other than the car industry that would use prototypes.

Industries like creating aeroplane for international flight also use prototypes. They do this so they can test their flight and make it more efficient for passengers. Prototypes have helped this industry develop better aeroplanes as time moves forward. Comparing the old planes in the late 20th century and the early 21st century.

Journal 15 – Informed Conscience

What is an Informed Conscience?

In order to make a decision doctor’s access a wide range of medical knowledge and patient history in order to diagnose a problem and treatment. The same principle can be applied to making moral decisions. We must be well informed regarding all the facts of the situation, moral values, virtues and laws in order to make our final decision. Therefore, an informed catholic conscience is an educated conscience that knows in any given situation.

Read the following scenario and answer the questions:

Roger Smith, a quite competent swimmer, is out for a leisurely stroll. During the course of his walk he passes by a deserted pier from which a teenage boy who apparently cannot swim has fallen into the water. The boy is screaming for help. Smith recognises that there is absolutely no danger to himself if he jumps in to save the boy; he could easily succeed if he tried. Nevertheless, he chooses to ignore the boy’s cries. The water is cold and he is afraid of catching a cold — he doesn’t want to get his good clothes wet either. “Why should I inconvenience myself for this kid,” Smith says to himself, and passes on.

1.) There are always TWO sides to a conscience. What would Roger’s conscience be telling him?

From this scenario, we can see that one side of Roger’s conscience told him not to save the drowning boy. The reason being was because he did not want to get his clothes soaked and also the fact that he did not want to catch a sickness from the cold water. There are always two sides to a conscience. The other side of Roger’s conscience would have be telling him that the boy isn’t as great of a swimmer he is. But based on his decision, he ignored this conscience and followed the other one.

2.) Think of an example of Jesus’ teaching and explain how his teachings can help us to make an appropriate decision?

Jesus would tell of stories to people. In The Gospel of Luke, chapter 10 verses 25-37, Jesus told of the Parable of the Good Samaritan. If Roger did what the Samaritan did, Roger would most definitely make the right decision and save the boy. There are many other examples other then this one, i.e The Beatitudes.

Reflection on Second Life

Our class supervising teachers are Mr Chipps and Miss Boshell. The teacher in charge of this project is Mr Groom.

For our project, we are required to create a shirt on Photoshop. We also have to create a soccer field in our second school term on the piece of land we are allowed to build on.

I have only been in the virtual world of Second Life for one day because of the problem with my account. I experienced the virtual world of Second Life with some friends; I enjoyed flying around places and the ability to build items like houses and just a plain old box. I liked the ability to equip or use what you have created and customise the place you want to put your equipment on your body. I had trouble the lag had affected my avatar when I was trying to fly. I ended up getting into the middle of the ocean and had to re log. What I dislike is how we need to use lindens to upload a mere shirt. However, I agree with using lindens as currency, or else everyone could get what they wanted.

Our whole class was asked to create a shirt on Adobe Photoshop through the templates which we were required to download. I learnt a lot about Photoshop with the help of the tutorials and my friend Nathan Zhu. I still had to troubles because I accidentally merged the layers when I wasn’t complete. Some people used existing images or jerseys and attached them onto Adobe Photoshop. I didn’t choose to attach a jersey or image, I only painted the shirt and added my name to the back of the template. This project helped our class on how we can make a shirt and gloves through the use of Adobe Photoshop.
